Wind becomes hydrogen

Power-to-Gas (PtG)

Standard hydrogen electrolysis

Power-to-Gas is a concept for using surplus wind or solar power for generating hydrogen. Hydrogen can be partly used in the existing natural gas infrastructure or methanised to form synthetic natural gas. A key aspect of a hydrogen economy is the ecologically and economically viable production of hydrogen, for example by electrolysis.

In the electrolysis hall at Energiepark Mainz, a hydrogen-electrolysis system from Siemens produces hydrogen from surplus electricity.
