Flagship of the funding initiative

Batteries in the distribution grid

The projects range from batteries connected to photovoltaic systems in households to electricity storage facilities capable of storing megawatts of power which can be used by energy supply companies. Key research topics include electrical or electrochemical systems for storing electrical energy, such as batteries, redox flow or double-layer capacitors, and mechanical storage systems, such as compressed air storage, pumped storage power plants or flywheels. Other projects being funded include new storage concepts and research into connecting decentralized storage systems.

Central energy management system 9.1.2017

City as Storage

A central

management system in a City can make electricity producers and consumers work

together. The result is a virtual energy storage for the energy system.

Scientists developed a management system that bundles cogeneration systems, heat

pumps , night storage heaters, photovoltaic batteries and other equipment. .

Integrated electricity market model 6.7.2016

Analysing energy storage in the electricity system

Scientists develoedp an integrated electricity market model. They analysed the optimal combination of storage, networks and electricity in the European electricity system looks like. The model identifies a current system that enables efficient interaction of all components mentioned at minimal cost. ... more
