Latent heat storage systems

Adsorption

Adsorption storage systems use hygroscopic materials such as silica gel, metal hydride or zeolite for storing heat. The addition of heat dries these materials. That corresponds to charging the storage system. To remove the heat, water vapour is added in a controlled manner to the dry sorbents and is immediately adsorbed, whereby the previously added heat is released again. This consists of the latent heat and the condensation heat from the water vapour.
